Martin Bohus, M.D.
Central Institute of Mental Health
Mannheim, Germany 

Martin Bohus, M.D. internationally recognized expert in research and treatment of Borderline Personality Disorder and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). A “major treatment innovator in the world of BPD and PTSD and a leading scientist in the study of these disorders” (Choi-Kain) He is President and Initiator of the 1st International Congress on BPD in Berlin in 2010. He has published over 300 articles on psychotherapy, BPD, and psychosomatics, presenting groundbreaking perspectives regarding the treatment and perception of BPD and PTSD. He is a long time friend of valerie Porr and beloved colleague of all of us at TARA4BPD.

Dr. Emil F. Coccaro Ohio State University, College of Medicine

Dr. Emil F. Coccaro is Vice-Chair of Research, and Endowed Chair at OSU. He was Manning Professor and Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Neuroscience at the Pritzker School of Medicine, University of Chicago. He is a Member of the Scientific Advisory Board at Azevan Pharmaceuticals, Inc., serves on editorial boards of journals (International Clinical Psychopharmacology, Journal of Personality Disorders, Aggression and Violent Behavior, and is Impulse Control and Personality Disorders Section Editor for Current Psychiatry Reports)
Dr. Coccaro has been the recipient of research grants from NIMH, American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, the BPD Research Foundation, and the Harry Frank Guggenheim Foundation. He has published over 130 peer-reviewed journal articles, 175 abstracts and 40 book chapters, edited 3 books, (Aggression: Psychiatric Assessment and Treatment). He is a long time friend of valerie Porr and beloved colleague of all of us at TARA4BPD.

Lois W. Choi-Kain, MEd, M.D.
Gunderson Residence - McLean Hospital
Harvard Medical School

Lois W. Choi-Kain, MEd, M.D. is director of the Gunderson Personality Disorders Institute and founded the BPD Training Instituter dedicated to research and proliferation of evidence-based BPD treatments. Lois created the Gunderson Residence, an intensive, specialized residential program for those with BPD integrating multiple BPD treatments such as DBT and mentalization. She is researching access to care for those with personality disorders and is conducting research on the efficacy of DBT-PTSD, an evidence-based treatment for BPD and PTSD, developed by Martin Bohus utilizing brain imaging.

Linda Dimeff, PhD
Portland DBT Institute

Linda Dimeff received her doctoral degree in clinical psychology from the University of Washington where she specialized in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). She led the Behavioral Technology Research Program for Marsha Linehan for over 20 years. She currently serves as the Chief Scientific Officer at the Evidence-Based Institute. Linda, along with Marsha Linehan, trained Valerie Porr in DBT. She is a long time friend, colleague and staunch supporter of TARA4BPD’s efforts to train family members of those with BPD.

Glen Gabbard, M.D.
Baylor College of Medicine

Dr. Glen Gabbard is a Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Baylor College of Medicine and Training, Supervising Analyst at the center for Psychoanalytic Studies in Houston, Director of the Baylor Psychiatry Clinic, and Director of Psychotherapy Education in the Department of Psychiatry. He has published numerous books on psychiatric psychotherapy, narcissism, and psychoanalysis.

Marianne S. Goodman, M.D.
Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai

Marianne S. Goodman, M.D. is a Professor of Psychiatry at The Mount Sinai School of Medicine. Her expertise is in the management of high risk suicidal and emotionally dysregulated veterans, Borderline Personality Disorder, and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). She is considered one of the foremost DBT experts in the VA system, actively involved in clinical care, research, and education. She participated in the development of TARA4BPD’s survey evaluating BPD experiences within the emergency room.

Erin Hazlett, PhD
Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai

Dr. Hazlett is a Professor of Psychiatry and Neuroscience Director at the Icahn Cognitive Psychophysiology Labratory. Her research is focused on the neurobiology of schizophrenia spectrum disorders and suicidal behaviors. Professor Hazlett is a member of the Association for Psychological Research, Society for Psychophysiological Research, and the Society for Research in Psychopathology.

Harold Koenigsberg, M.D.
Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai

Harold Koenigsberg, M.D. is Professor of Psychiatry at the Icahn
School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and Director of the Mood and
Personality Disorders Program at Mount Sinai. He is an author of
2 books on borderline personality disorder, one of which has
been published in 7 languages. Harold has conducted in depth
research on neurobiology, phenomenology, and treatment of
borderline personality disorder.

Kenneth Levy, PhD
Pennsylvania State University

Dr. Kenneth Levy is Associate Professor at The Pennsylvania State University in the Clinical Psychology Program at the Graduate School and Psychology Department. He is the director of the Laboratory for Personality, Psychopathology, and Psychotherapy Research. Kenneth is also the principal investigator for a number of research grants exploring attachment organization and psychotherapy for borderline personality disorder (BPD). His recent projects have explored emotion regulation and neurocognitive functioning in neural activity in borderline personality disorder.

Shelley McMain, PhD University of Toronto, CA.

Shelley McMain , Ph.D. is the Head of the BPD Clinic, a Clinician Scientist at the Center for Addiction and Mental Health in Toronto, CA, Director of the Psychotherapy, Humanities, and Psychosocial Interventions Division and Ass. Professor in the Dept. of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto, CA. She has received numerous awards for her psychotherapy research and teaching. She is President-elect of the Society for Psychotherapy Research and a Certified DBT clinician. She has published extensively on BPD and mechanisms and mediators of psychotherapy outcome.

 
 
 
 

John M. Oldham, M.D., M.S.
Baylor College of Medicine

John M. Oldham, M.D., M.S. is currently Distinguished Emeritus Professor of Psychiatry at Baylor College of Medicine in the Menninger Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. His research interests involve the treatment and diagnosis of severe personality disorders. John was director of the New York Institute earlier in his career. He is the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Psychiatric Practice and the joint editor-in-chief of Borderline Personality Disorder.

Thomas Rinne, M.D., PhD
Netherlands Institute of Forensic Psychiatry

Thomas Rinne, M.D., PhD is a forensic psychiatrist based in the Netherlands. He previously worked as head of the rehabilitation department of the Mental Health Institution De Geestgronden and later as senior consultant and associate professor of the Department of Psychiatry at the Leiden University Medical Center. He conducted research on the pharmacological treatment of borderline personality disorder along with the impact of chronic traumatization.

Christian Schmahl, M.D.

Christian Schmahl, M.D. is a Professor of Experimental Psychopathology and Medical Director of the Department of Psychosomatic Medicine at the Central Institute of Mental Health in Mannheim, Germany. He researches emotion regulation, suicidal behavior, and dissociation among individuals suffering from borderline personality disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder from a neurobiological perspective.

 
 

Eric Vermetten, M.D., PhD

Leiden, Netherlands

Eric Vermetten, M.D., PhD is a clinical psychiatrist primarily working with veterans as Strategic Advisor of Research at the Military Mental Health Care in the Netherlands. He is trained in the Netherlands as well as in the USA in psychiatry and neuroscience. He is a member of several international professional societies in biological and clinical psychiatry and neuroscience and is on the editorial board of several professional journals. He is currently studying the use of psychedelics in the treatment of numerous psychological disorders.
