Free Psychotherapy for Borderline Personality Disorder
Research Treatment Program
Study
Design
| • |
Randomized
controlled trial that investigates the effectiveness of cognitive
therapy for borderline personality disorder compared to others
types of therapy provided by experienced psychotherapists. |
| • |
All therapists
are doctoral-level psychologists. |
| • |
Up to 25 free
sessions of therapy are provided over a six-month period. |
| • |
Patients will
also participate in standardizes assessment and receive compensation
for these assessments. |
| • |
Participants
must have access to transportation. |
Inclusion
Criteria
| • |
Meets DMS-IV
criteria for Borderline Personality Disorder. |
| • |
Current suicide
ideation. (for Past 1 month) |
| • |
Age 18 or older. |
| • |
Able to understand
the nature of the study and provide written, informed consent. |
| • |
Availability
for 6 months of weekly psychotherapy. |
Exclusion
Criteria
| • |
Schizophrenic
Disorder, Delusional Disorder, Schizophreniform Disorder, Schizoaffective
Disorder or other Pschychotic Disorder. |
| • |
Mental Retardation. |
| • |
Other acute
medical illness or debilitating problem. |
